Bathcloths and Dishcloths

I have a bunch of dishcloths for sale. They are 2 for $5, or 3 for $7. Buy four or more for only $2 each. Plus shipping. Let me know what you want and I will give you a total then send you to Paypal (info3@garrcreative.com) to pay. Or you can send me a check or money order.
These crocheted cloths are very durable and are great for use in the kitchen or the bathroom. Much better and longer lasting than regular washcloths and dishcloths. For the bathroom, the cloths I make are a solid color. They all make great gifts for weddings, showers, birthdays, etc. Put them in a gift bag with soaps or kitchen items. I just gave some to my cousin for her wedding shower as part of combined gift with dishtowels and Tupperware. (For Tupperware, contact andy@andymetcalf.net)

So first, the giveaway: I'm sending you to my awesome friend's blog - http://dgoddessblog.blogspot.com/ Please go there, look at the cloths and browse her blog, she is amazing! Follow her instructions for entering the giveaway and at the end of the week, she will pick a winner. The winner will let me know which three wash/dishcloths you want and I will mail them to you.

Daylight Saving Time- is there a compromise?

I have come up with a solution to Daylight Saving Time that I think everyone would be happy with! Some people like it, they can enjoy more daylight in the evening and they are probably the kind of people who like to sleep in anyway! Others hate it (like me!) because all it does is throw off their schedule for a few days twice a year and it is especially annoying to help kids adjust to the time change. Arizona and Hawaii don't even observe DST, but maybe we could get them to agree to this solution.
So here is what I propose: set the clocks ahead in the Spring 30 minutes and then just leave it alone! That way, you add just a little bit more daylight in the evening and then in the Fall, the time change from the Spring before will not seem like such a big deal.
I read in the paper that there is an increase in heart attacks at the time of DST. It’s always an adjustment on my family, but it can be deadly for those who may be in fragile health. I also read about a study that showed an 8% increase in auto accidents the Monday after the clocks were changed. A doctor attributed this to lack of sleep, but could it also be because suddenly it's darker outside than it was the Friday before?
And speaking of lack of sleep, it can take up to 5 days for our bodies to get used to the new schedule every time the change is made.
Farmers don't like DST because they work with the sun no matter what the clock says.
In the summer it's nice to have the extra sunlight but for parent's with kids on a year-round schedule, it's hard to put the kids to bed at 8:00 when the sun doesn't go down until 9.
"Claims that there is a savings in electricity usage seems to be unfounded. Instead DST appears to affect the peak demand negatively. In the meantime, we have less sunlight in the morning, and in the evening we have more." -- Elizabeth Schram
I agree. Since it was dark when I got up this morning, doesn't it just make sense that I will use the lights for that hour while the sun is coming up, even though I didn't use it last night? Like I said, if you sleep in anyway, it'll be light when you get up, but if you are a night owl, like my husband, you are going to use a lot of electricity anyway. Maybe we should all just try to find a way to cut back on our electricity use instead of having the Government tell us what time it is and try to control our energy use.
Well, those are my thoughts, I welcome thoughts from you about Daylight Saving Time. If you are vehemently opposed to DST, this Web site (http://www.standardtime.com/)suggests writing a letter to your Congressman - not a bad idea.

Warm February

The sun is shining today and I decided it would be a good day to add another post to my blog since it's been so long! I started feeling like maybe I'm not the blogging type. I have lots of fun reading my friends blogs, but I am not sure that it is the thing for me - at least not something that I can update a few times a week. Right now, I suppose my heart just isn't in it.

But today I am putting up a quick note that it is reasonable warm outside and it's still February, although I think the weather guy said there is another storm coming and the weather will be cold once again. What can I expect? Mother Nature is giving all of us Utahns a little Spring teaser and who knows how many more weeks it will be until we start feeling the warmth on a more continual basis? Spring will be here eventually and soon people will be outside enjoying the warmer air and later evenings. Maybe we'll even get re-acquainted with our neighbors that we have been hibernating from for the last few months.

Enjoy the warmth while it lasts!

Things will get better

I have been a little bit out of commission lately. At the end of October, I found out I am expecting my fifth child! Unfortunately for me, I get terrible morning sickness. For about three weeks I was down almost flat most of the day. Thank goodness I have some great medicine now that really helps with the nausea, so I thought I would finally get back to my blog!

Like many people, I have been thinking about the economy and how things are getting to be pretty crazy these days. Gas prices are down, but grocery prices are still up, people are losing their jobs all over the country and major companies are falling apart. Things look pretty glum.

However, I like to be optimistic. It's true that many people will need to cut back, maybe Christmas won't be too spectacular this year, maybe families will have to downsize their home or cars. The clothes we have will have to last a little longer and home improvements will have to be postponed. This can be frustrating, but let's remember that bad times don't last. If you choose to be optimistic, you can make it through the stressful, tough economic times and be prepared to enjoy prosperity again when the time comes. It doesn't hurt to cut back sometimes. Struggling through tough times can make you stronger if you choose.

So choose to have a good attitude. Show others around you (especially children) that life isn't always what we may want it to be, but we can learn and grow and rise up after the conflict stronger and better than we ever were.

My morning sickness will end. I'll get my energy back, but I'll gain weight and be uncomfortable for a few months. In the end, I will have a beautiful baby and all the pain will be forgotten in those first moments of seeing my baby's sweet face. There is always sunshine after the storm.

God bless you all.

Thanks Pink Teapot!

My friend, Janine, who started the blog The Pink Teapot just gave me an award on her blog! I am flattered. I enjoy visiting her blog because she talks about etiquette and how we can use it in our everyday lives. That's something that is missing on so many levels these days! She discusses manners (including children's manners), death, special occasions, thank you notes, and etiquette in many other areas such as; e-mail, weddings, driving, and tipping. The world needed a blog like this one. It's true that there are many people who have manners and tact, but there is no reason why we cannot try to improve in all areas of etiquette. Check out her site when you have a question about manners or etiquette.

I'm grateful to Janine for recognizing JoBloom because in my own small way, I am trying to improve the world with positive thinking and motivational insights. It's very rewarding to know that people read, and when they want to, comment on my thoughts. Whenever I read my comments section, I am amazed at the extra bits of information that I read. I am not alone in my feelings and my friends often say things that I didn't even think of. Your contributions make a difference.

Thanks to all of you who read my blog and share it. Thanks for the comments. Last but not least, thanks Janine with The Pink Teapot for your generous award!

McCain vs Obama

I'm thinking that everyone is probably sick of hearing about politics so I will make this brief. I think it is inexcusable that McCain and Obama have wasted so much of their debate and campaigning time with negativity towards eachother. Most people just want to hear the issues and how each candidate is going to deal with that. I know it's "politics", but maybe we could have a little human decency, too.
